SULA: THE SEMANTICS OF UNDER-REPRESENTED
LANGUAGES IN THE AMERICAS

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst is pleased to announce SULA, a special conference on the formal semantics of under-represented languages of the Americas. The goal of this conference is to bring together researchers working on languages and dialects which do not have an established tradition of work in formal semantics.
REGISTRATION: while we are no longer accepting registration for the SULA day sessions, the evening sessions are open to the public, and do not require registration.

LOCATIONS: Daytime sessions will be at The Hotel Northampton, and evening sessions will be in Seelye Hall 106, Smith College. Both locations are in Northampton, Massachusetts. See information on getting to Northampton on this webpage after the program of events.

GETTING TO NORTHAMPTON
This section of the webpage contains information on getting to Northampton from regional airports by bus, limousine service, and car. The two main airports in the area are Logan Airport (in Boston) and Bradley Airport (in Hartford, Connecticut). Because of Massachusetts’ plow-like shape, Bradley is actually much closer to Northampton than Logan is. The Peter Pan bus line serves most of New England. You can catch Peter Pan buses at Boston’s South Station if you’re coming from Logan Airport, and in Springfield, Massachusetts if you’re coming from Bradley Airport. Peter Pan tickets can be purchased from the bus drivers, and are sold on a first-come first-served basis. Peter Pan does not take reservations. FROM LOGAN TO NORTHAMPTON BY PETER PAN
Take the free shuttle bus (number 22 or 33) from Logan to Airport Station. Buy a subway token for $1, then take the Blue Line from Airport Station to State, the Orange Line from State to Downtown Crossing, and the Red Line from Downtown Crossing to South Station. Take the Peter Pan bus from South Station to Northampton. From the Peter Pan bus stop in Northampton, walk up the hill and turn right onto Main Street, then walk to the stoplight and turn left onto King Street. Walk one block and The Hotel Northampton will be on your left. On Thursday, April 19, Peter Pan buses leave from South Station for Northampton at these times: 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 5:15 pm, and 7:30 pm. A one-way ticket from South Station to Northampton costs $23.
FROM BRADLEY TO NORTHAMPTON BY PETER PAN
Take the Peter Pan shuttle bus from Bradley to Springfield, then the Peter Pan bus from Springfield to Northampton. From the Peter Pan bus stop in Northampton, walk up the hill and turn right onto Main Street, then walk to the stoplight and turn left onto King Street. Walk one block and The Hotel Northampton will be on your left. On Thursday, April 19, shuttle buses leave Bradley at 10:45 am and 4:20 pm. A one-way ticket from Bradley to Northampton costs $19, and the shuttle bus may cost an extra $5. Buy tickets either at the Connecticut Limousine counter at Bradley, or from the shuttle bus driver.
... BY VALLEY TRANSPORTER
Valley Transporter is a limousine service that you can take to and from regional airports. It is more expensive than riding the bus, and requires reservations with payment by Visa or Mastercard. To make reservations, call 800-872-8752 from inside the US, and 413-253-1350 from outside the US. A one-way trip for one person from Bradley Airport to Northampton costs $32. A one-way trip from Logan Airport to Northampton costs $165 for one to three people, and $210 for four to ten people. Traveling before 8:00 am or after 9:00 pm costs an additonal $5.

FROM LOGAN TO NORTHAMPTON BY CAR
Approximate travel time: 150 minutes. Boston is a very difficult city to navigate, so beware and pay close attention to road signs. You should also have about $10 in small bills and coins to pay tolls leaving the airport and on the Mass Pike. From the airport take the airport exit to Route 1A South, to 93 South, to 90 West (Mass Pike). Follow 90 West for about 80 miles, then take exit 4 to 91 North. Follow 91 North for about 10 miles, then take exit 18, and turn left onto Route 5. Follow Route 5 for about 1 mile to the stoplight at the intersection of Pleasant/King Street and Main Street. Go straight through the light and The Hotel Northampton will be on your left.
FROM BRADLEY TO NORTHAMPTON BY CAR
Approximate travel time: 45 minutes. Take the airport connector road to CT-20. Follow CT-20 for about 3 miles to 91 North. Follow 91 North for about 30 miles, then take exit 18 (in Massachusetts), and turn left onto Route 5. Follow Route 5 for about 1 mile to the stoplight at the intersection of Pleasant/King Street and Main Street. Go straight through the light and The Hotel Northampton will be on your left.
FROM NEW YORK CITY TO NORTHAMPTON BY CAR
Approximate travel time: 180 minutes. Be sure to have small bills and coins to pay tolls. From NY-9A North, take exit 14 to 95 North. Follow 95 North for about 60 miles, then take exit 48 to 91 North. Follow 91 North for about 80 miles, then take exit 18 (in Massachusetts), and turn left onto Route 5. Follow Route 5 for about 1 mile to the stoplight at the intersection of Pleasant/King Street and Main Street. Go straight through the light and The Hotel Northampton will be on your left.
