Getting to the UMass and the conference buildings:

Please refer to our new maps site for details of the various locations related to the workshops: http://www.umass.edu/linguist/possessives/maps.html

[Drive]    [Bus]

Drive: We assume you know how to get to Amherst (if not, see: http://www.umass.edu/visitors/directions.html)

Here are our simplest (not necessarily shortest) directions for getting to:
(1) The Mullins Center parking lot, for day 1 of each workshop (May 3, May 6),
(2) Campus Center Parking garage, for those staying in the Campus Center hotel and for others needing campus parking on May 7 or 8;
(3) a parking lot near the Math Lounge (free parking on Saturday and Sunday; but don't use this on weekdays),

(1) To the Mullins Center parking lot, free parking for workshop attendees when the workshop is there (May 3, 6):
    From Route 9, take route 116 north 1 mile to UMass exit. Very soon after that exit, before you reach the campus proper, take Mullins Way left (north) around the athletic fields and lower tennis courts until you come to the parking lot right behind the huge brick green-roofed Mullins Center. (The Mullins Center is our basketball stadium. It's the biggest building, though not the tallest, anywhere around; you can't miss it.)
    The Green Room is actually very close to the parking lot, but we don't know if you can get in on the ground floor. If you do see people going in and out that way, try it.

(2) To Campus Center Parking garage. From Route 9, take route 116 north 1 mile to UMass exit. Right at the top of the exit ramp, proceed east towards campus and follow signs to Campus Center Parking garage.

(3) Free parking near Math Lounge on Saturday and Sunday. Refer to the customized map. Start as if going to the Campus Center Parking garage (see (2) above), but keep going north around the "back" (west) side of the campus, and try to find your way into the maze of parking areas numbered "65" (on the map and also on signs). The lots near Paige Lab and Knowles are good. All normal parking lots are free on the weekend, but the Campus Parking Center garage isn't.

Take the bus: If you're taking the Peter Pan bus to campus, and will be staying at the Campus Center hotel, please stay on the bus past Amherst Center and get off at Haigis Mall on campus (highlighted in purple on our map). The red brick 25-story structure you will then see in front of you is the library, and the Campus Center is the 11-story grey building not too far beyond the library.

Mullins Center, where the Green Room (the location of days 1 of both workshops) is, is about a 15-minute walk from Haigis Mall. It's a sprawling brick building with a green roof located at the West end of campus. For an enlarged view of the Mullins Center on the interactive map, click here.

The Lederle Graduate Research Tower (LGRT), where the Math Lounge (days 2,3 of each workshop) is located, is a 16-story building a little bit further away (than either the library or the Campus Center). For an enlarged view of the LGRT on the interactive map, click here.

Finding the Conference Rooms:

The Green Room (Mullins Center): The Green Room (Rm #12) is located on the Ground Floor of the Mullins Center. As you walk in the entrance facing the Mullins Practice Rink, you will see a set of doors to your right-hand side. Go in, and take the elevator to the Ground Floor. Turn left, and follow the hallway all the way around the corner, past the three locker rooms on your right.
The Math Lounge (LGRT): The Math Lounge (Rm # 1634) is located on the 16th floor of the Lederle Graduate Research Tower. Please allow extra time for the long elevator ride. As you step off the elevator on the 16th floor, you will see right in front of you a sign pointing to your right (unless you choose to step off by walking backwards) saying “Room 1634”.
