There are a number of airports with ground transportation services to Amherst, MA: (i) Bradley International, located in Hartford, CT, (ii) Logan International, located in Boston, MA, (iii) JFK International and La Guardia, located in NY, and Newark, located in NJ.
You can fly into Hartford (BDL), Boston (BOS), or New York (JFK, LGA,
EWR). BDL is definitely the closest airport (about 1 hour by car, more by bus) if you can
get decent connections to it. Boston is farther (about 2+ hours by car, more by bus) but
has many more incoming flights and it's not too hard or long to get here from Boston. New
York is farther still (3+ hours by car, more by bus) but JFK is still the best option from
some international locations; it is longer and a bit harder to get here from there.
Connecting flights from New York to Hartford exist but are sometimes unreliable, so ground
transportation, while long, is safer.
The ground transportation options below all end up with one of two companies getting you
into Amherst: Peter Pan Bus Lines or Valley Transporter. Peter
Pan Bus Lines brings you into Amherst, with stops in town and at UMass. Valley Transporter
provides door-to-door service.
