Description

Introduction to statistical and other quantitative methods for analyzing linguistic data, whether those data come from experiments, sociolinguistic investigations, or corpora. Includes study of stochastic models of linguistic behavior. Prerequisites: for undergraduates: LINGUIST 201, 401, 402 and either 411, 412, 4123 or 414; for graduate students: LINGUIST 601, 603, and either 611, 612, 614, 711 or 712. Recommended mathematic background: Algebra and some geometry and trigonometry.
