MIDTERM

Professor Janet Rifkin
Legal Studies 397D - Family Law

Due next class, Wednesday, October 25, 2000

This Midterm assignment asks you to focus on one specific issue that we have examinied in the readings and discussed in class-Transracial Adoption. It has two parts. The first part is to read the article found at the following URL:

http://www.aad.berkeley.edu/uga/osl/mcnair/93BerkeleyMcNairjournal/FeliciaLaw.html

In this article by Professor Felicia Law, she takes a deeper look at some of the issues that were raised in the readings and, after reviewing a significant amount of evidence, she raises some serious questions about the merits of transracial adoption.

Your assignment in Part 1 is to write a serious and well-developed analysis of this issue and to conclude with a specific recommendation for an adoption policy on transracial adoption. Your paper should conclude with a logically formulated recommendation that is based on your analysis and careful examination of this article and of the other readings relevant to this issue in our text. You are also free to go to outside sources if you are so inclined. This paper should be 5 pages.

Part 2 of this assignment is to bring your paper to class next week at which time you will exchange it with two of your classmates who will read it, write comments, (on a comment sheet that I will provide) give you an advisory grade, and give you verbal feedback. Everyone will be required to participate in this.

At the end of this activity, I will collect the papers and the comments and evaluations of your peers.
