The Learning Commons

The UMass Amherst Learning Commons is located on the Lower Level of the W.E.B. Du Bois library. This new space brings together library, technology, and other campus services in an environment that fosters informal, collaborative work, and social interaction. Members of our staff at the Learning Commons and Technical Support Desk (577-1272), located on the Lower Level of the W. E. B. Du Bois Library, will help you with all of the services the Learning Commons offers.

Important Notices: Please set cell phones to vibrate while in the Learning Commons. All spaces (including the Glass Rooms) are first-come, first-served (unless otherwise noted by signage). Read the Learning Commons User Behavior Policies.

Learning & Writing Support

The Learning Resource Center provides tutoring and supplemental instruction for many first- and second-year courses. The University Writing Center provides graduate and undergraduate students with free, noncredit avenues for improving their writing.

There are 192 computers in the Learning Commons, as well as easy access to Ethernet ports and the wireless network for those with laptops. OIT Help Desk and Classroom Consultants, as well as Library Consultants, are on hand at the Learning Commons and Technical Support Desk to answer your computing and account questions.
