Biological cleaning of Water and Soils in Hamburg - Wilhelmsburg
Contaminants in soils and water are the big challenges in post-industrial urban brownfields. Students of the LARP Urban Design Laboratory explored the remediation of contaminated brownfields with process-oriented remediation strategies in Hamburg- Wilhelmsburg, Germany. Their design makes biological soil-remediation an experience that is integrated with the design principles of landscape architecture and urban design.
The idea of beauty in the landscape is redefined as ecological processes. Beauty in the landscape becomes a tangible and legible design medium. Functional landscapes of remediation in the western Reiherstiegquarter rise in value through beauty.
