LA’s need to see designed landscapes. We learn from them, we’re inspired by them, and we use them for ideas in our own designs. Good designers travel a lot and they travel deliberately and learn-by-seeing. There is no city in the world that is a better place than NYC to see great landscape architecture! From Olmsted to the High Line!

Jack Ahern will lead the trip again as he has done for 30 years. This year we start in Brooklyn to see Olmsted and Vaux’s masterpiece at Prospect Park, then to the Brooklyn waterfront to see the new stunning Brooklyn Bridge Park by MVVA, then we walk across the Brooklyn Bridge for a spectacular view of downtown Manhattan. Next is the 911 memorial by Michael Arad with Peter Walker, then the mile long park-waterfront of Battery Park City with world-class Landscapes by Olin, Susan Childs, Paul Friedberg, Oehme van Sweden and MVVA. We finish by walking the High Line, the still new and world famous reclaimed/abandoned elevated railway corridor, now an awesome 1.5 miles of unique landscape design by James Corner Field Operations with plantings by the Dutch Master, Piet Oudolf. During the day we will walk about 10 miles.
