Springfield Design Center

The UMass Amherst Design Center in Springfield (Design Center) is a collaboration between the UMass Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning, the Architecture + Design Program, and UMass Extension/Center for Agriculture.  Opening in 2009, the Design Center provides an inviting and creative workspace in downtown Springfield where UMass Amherst students and staff can interact with city officials, design and planning professionals and the general public.

Students and faculty use the Design Center space for studios, meetings, exhibits and public presentations.

Recent work has included the creation of a neighborhood plan for the “Old Hill/Six Corners” area, an urban revitalization plan for the “Forest Park/and the “X” corridor, and renovations to Pynchon Plaza in Springfield’s Central Business District.
