[1] Information Resources for Telecommunications Planning: A Guide for Rural Massachusetts, a Center for Rural Massachusetts publication, reviews many sources of information on terms and concepts that people currently need to know for rural telecommunications planning (Campbell 1995).

[5] Vineyard Haven is a part of the town of Tisbury on the island of Martha's Vineyard. Tisbury had a 1990 population of 3120 and a population density of 476 persons per square mile (U. S. Bureau of the Census 1992).

[6] Nantucket had a 1990 population of 6012 and a population density of 126 persons per square mile. Sherborn is in southern Middlesex County, with a 1990 population of 3989 and a population density of 250 persons per square mile . Stockbridge is in southern Berkshire County and had a 1990 population of 2408 and a population density of 105 persons per square mile. Sunderland, in southern Fraklin County, had a 1990 population of 3399 and a population density of 236 persons per square mile (U. S. Census Bureau 1992).

[7] Sarah Laverty, a graduate student in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning researching business incubators provided the reference. She had obtained a regional list of business incubators from the National Business Incubation Association, and considered the Venture Center to be the one in Massachusetts that had the most rural location. Greenfield had a 1990 population of 18,666 and a population density of 859 persons per square mile (U. S. Bureau of the Census 1992).
