A. Waugh Alumni Association Mission Statement
The mission of the Frank A. Waugh
Alumni Association is to support the programs and activities of
the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning of
the University of Massachusetts Amherst; hereinafter called the
"Department", and to encourage, promote and strengthen
the interest of alumni, friends, business and industry in the department
through technical, intellectual and financial support.
The Association shall act independently from the Department
to further the interests of the alumni and the Department by providing
services and programs which enlighten, strengthen and develop the
students, faculty, staff, and Association members.
In furtherance of the Mission Statement, the Association's purpose
shall be to:
- Provide the leadership, service and financial support necessary
to enrich the academic, and social experience of the Department's
students.
Identify present and future potential financial donors;
Identify individuals who can provide valuable experience to
students and
faculty and seek their involvement by participation in the Association,
by volunteering to speak to the Department about relevant LARP
issues;
- Enhance, strengthen and develop the academic reputation of
the Department and reinforce and validate the worth and pride
in the academic experience in the Department.
Seize upon every opportunity to elevate and heighten the
Department's
image and instill pride regarding the Department by students,
faculty,
staff, parents, and alumni;
1) Publications
2) Newletters and Web site
3) Alumni involvement in review of curriculum and accreditation
Continue and expand educational efforts that involve real life
experience as well as academics:
1) Lecture Series
2) Symposia
3) Internships
- Continue to develop and reinforce the bonds between the Department
and its alumni in the professions of landscape architecture and
planning; especially as these bonds may provide valuable career
counseling and networking.
Promote diversity within the Department, including sex, race, national
origin, ge, education and cultural background;
Serve as the Department's advocate and champion in all appropriate
situations.
1) Outreach to schools (Career Days);
2) minority recruitment;
3) integrate involvement and interest through undergraduate programs;
All of the Association's initiatives, programs, services,
operations and plans shall serve to advance one or more of the elements
of the foregoing Mission statement and purpose. This mis-sion statement
and purpose shall be viewed and examined on at least an annual basis
to insure its appropriateness, validity and significance.
