Deb Zervas 2nd year MLA student

Deborah Zervas is pursuing an MLA in the Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning program at the University of Massachusetts. As a visual artist as well as a designer, she is very interested in the representation of landscape and the role it plays in the design process and in client edification.

Her thesis proposal is for a theoretical and experimental study into the use of collage as a mediumto express all aspects of landscape. Deborah says, "I use collages of all types in my design work, and will investigate how well this medium can communicate spatial relationships, quality of space and intended use to non-professionals."
Bruce A. Wujcik, R.A., an associate with Svigals + Partners, says "as a practicing architect I have often sought out Deborah’s fresh viewpoints and creative insights on design issues. Invariably I come away with a richer understanding of both the problem to be solved and the path to a resolution." He adds, "Deborah is unjaded by precedent and unbounded in her creativity."

Deborah hopes to eventually find a position as a landscape architect/designer in an architecture office, doing site assessment and community engagement, with perhaps an adjunct teaching position.
