Vegetation Transition Model
Agriculture
Description.–Includes all agricultural lands (e.g., cropland, pasture). Consequently, there is an herbaceous vegetation component.
Distribution.–Agricultural cover is found principally at the lower elevations in the valley bottoms, although this cover is scattered up to elevations of approximately 2500 m (Figure-distribution map; Figure-elevation chart; Table-areal coverage).
Stand conditions.–Agriculture was treated as a static cover type (i.e., no succession) and therefore did not have separate stand conditions.
No Conditions (NC) – we did not recognize separate stand conditions in this cover type.
Succession Transitions.–Although vegetation is not static in this cover type, we did not consider these changes as relevant in our modeling work (RMLANDS).
Disturbance Transitions.-Natural disturbances generally are not important in agricultural lands. However, because this cover type does contain flammable vegetation, we allowed wildfires to occur in this cover type - with little consequence however.
