A =     total landscape area (m²).

Description

TA equals the total area (m²) of the landscape, divided by 10,000 (to convert to hectares). Note, total landscape area (A) includes any internal background present.

Comments

Total area (TA) often does not have a great deal of interpretive value with regards to evaluating landscape pattern, but it is important because it defines the extent of the landscape. Moreover, total landscape area is used in the computations for many of the class and landscape metrics.
