This project is broadly focused on fire ecology and management in the western North America and more specifically on understanding the landscape ecology of wildfires and the role of wildland fire use (or prescribed natural fire) on wildfire disturbance regimes and landscape vegetation patterns.

About The Principal Investigators
This project is headed up by the following principal investigators at the University of Massachusetts, Department of Environmental Conservation:
- Sandra Haire -- Landscape ecologist; responsible for project management, reporting and generally getting all the work done.
- Kevin McGarigal --Landscape ecologist; responsible for conceptual development and general project oversight.
