Summary and Conclusions
In summary, it is clear that landscape pattern analysis, and landscape metrics in
particular, has played a central role in the rapid advances in landscape ecology
since its inception. And characteristic of any emerging discipline, the art and
science of landscape pattern analysis is undergoing several significant transitions.
I hope to have shed light on some of these transitions and, more importantly,
impressed upon you that our work is far from over; great challenges and
opportunities exist to further advance the field and keep us busy for a very long
time.
