We combined kernel estimators and resistant surfaces to create our resistant kernel estimator. The figure on the left shows a traditional kernel estimator for five vernal pools. Brighter areas represent higher probabilities of finding amphibians dispersing from these pools. The figure on the right is our resistant kernel estimator. The most obvious difference in this example is the outlined area in the north, where the road to the east of a pool has greatly reduced the number of animals dispersing into this area.
