Our multiple and intersecting identities should be affirmed and celebrated. In this talk, liz will highlight the impact of their identities both personally and professionally. They will give a preview of their PhD research on disability cultural centers and assert why disability culture and community is vital today more than ever. The Chinese Must Go: A History of Anti-Asian Violence
Beth Lew-Williams will give a lecture on the topic of The Chinese Must Go: Violence, Exclusion, and the Making of the Alien in America. The American West erupted in anti-Chinese violence in 1885. Following the massacre of Chinese miners in Wyoming Territory, more than 165 communities throughout California and the Pacific Northwest harassed, assaulted, and expelled thousands of Chinese migrants. She will discuss this unprecedented outbreak of violence, place it within the broader history of anti-Asian violence, and reflect on the implications for the present day.
The Important Role & History of HBCUs
The Waltham Public Library is embarking on a series of virtual programs highlighting the Black experience of our shared American History. Starting in September and running through May 2022, the library will host one speaker a month who will focus on a topic relevant to the importance of Black history in America. We hope you'll join us on this journey. Their first speaker is Dr. LaBrent Chrite, president of Bentley University in Waltham, MA.
Sideshow: Nicole Eisenman’s Modernist Inspirations
Presented alongside Nicole Eisenman: Prince, the exhibition Sideshow includes prints and drawings that inspired Eisenman’s printmaking practices and relate to their chosen themes of social gatherings and urban experiences. These artworks range in time from the narrative prints of 18th-century British artist William Hogarth to the late prints and drawings of Pablo Picasso, made well after the Second World War.

Diggin' In: Digital Conversations with Archaeologists
Dr. Paulette Steeves (Cree- Metis), was born in Whitehorse Yukon Territories and grew up in Lillooet, British Columbia, Canada. She is an Associate Professor in Sociology – Anthropology at Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie, ON, and a Canada Research Chair in Healing and Reconciliation. She holds an adjunct faculty position at Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB. Her research focus is on the Pleistocene history of the Western Hemisphere, reclaiming and rewriting Indigenous histories and healing and reconciliation.
