Certificate of Journalism Requirements

To earn the Certificate of Journalism, you must take a minimum of 17 credits in five courses, as follows:

  • Either JOURNAL 201 (Introduction to Journalism) or JOURNAL 250 (News Literacy)
  • JOURNAL 300 (Newswriting and Reporting)
  • Either JOURNAL 460 (Journalism Ethics) or JOURNAL 445 (Journalism and Law)
  • Two other elective JOURNAL courses of your choosing

These courses can be taken in any order, but we recommend the above sequence to ensure you are well-prepared to succeed in your coursework.

After you have received the grade for your last Certificate class, please contact the Department Chair so they may review your coursework and certify your transcript.
