Journalism has a peer advising program. Each year, several juniors and seniors with a broad array of experience in coursework, campus media, internships and studying abroad make themselves available to their fellow students as well as high school and transfer students. Here are the peer advisors for Fall 2012.
Stephen Ndungu |
Stephen came to UMass as a transfer student from Northern Essex Community College in the fall of 2011. He is originally from Kenya and has been in this country for 5 years. His dream is to graduate from UMass and secure a job in Nairobi. He has 3 younger sisters, and is also the first in his family to go this far education-wise so the pressure is there to do what is right. He can help anyone with anything that concerns academic requirements and choosing classes. He studied his academic requirements every day last semester to figure out how to manage his time here. |
Felicia Cohen |
Felicia is a junior journalism major, with a double major in advertising and graphic design in the BDIC program. She is also minoring in Spanish. Felicia works at the Daily Collegian as the Advertising Production Manager. She travelled to Sicily in Spring 2012 in the Travel Writing and Photojournalism course. |

Harmonie is a 24-year-old senior journalism major. She transferred into UMass in 2011 from Northern Essex Community College. Harmonie understands the challenges that come with being a new student on such a large and unfamiliar campus. Harmonie has been highly involved with WMUA, the UMass campus radio station. She has been a co-host on TRGGR Radio, which is a meeting ground of grassroots Hip-Hop culture, music, and politics for a year. This coming fall semester Harmonie will begin producing and hosting her own personal show on WMUA titled Harmonious Mov3s. The show will be dedicated to showcasing young men and women who are actively making positive moves through education, the arts and social justice. Harmonie is highly involved in civic engagement and community service efforts. She is one of the founding members of Sneakers For Success, which is a non-profit organization established in September 2011. Harmonie is going into her third semester with Prof. Nick McBride's Community Journalism course and will be serving as a TA during the upcoming fall semester. |
