Ways to Give

Gifts can be made online to the Journalism Department through the secure College of Social & Behavioral Sciences’ MinuteFund page.

When you give to SBS, you can assign your donation to the Journalism Department by selecting it from the “Fund Designation” drop-down menu. All funds donated to the Journalism Department directly benefit our students through scholarships, clubs and guest speakers. Donations to the general Journalism Department fund are particularly important for supporting a wide range of student activities.

If you would like to donate directly to one of the journalism funds below, please select the “Other” option under “Fund Designation” and enter the name of the fund you’d like to support.

The Ziff Fund for Student Innovation

Professor Howard M. Ziff established the Journalism Department at UMass in 1971. With the Ziff Fund for Student Innovation, we plan to honor Professor Ziff’s commitment to students and prepare the next generation of digital storytellers. This fund supports initiatives like Amherst Wire, The Rebirth Project, large-scale reporting projects, scholarships and special student programming. The Lawrence Dana Pinkham Memorial Scholarship

The Lawrence Dana Pinkham Memorial Scholarship was established to help journalism students who wish to study abroad. It honors Larry Pinkham, a former chair of UMass Journalism. The Journalism Technology Fund

Our department strives to provide students with the most current multimedia equipment to make them as competitive as possible in the ever-changing field. As our cameras, computers, and studios come to need upgrading at the end of planned cycles, we rely on our Journalism Technology Fund to refurbish our stock. We appreciate your help in this endeavor. The Megan S. Daley Scholarship

Megan Daley loved UMass. She wrote for the Daily Collegian and graduated with a degree in Journalism in 2006. She worked for WIS Publications in Dedham, MA., and, at the time of her death in 2013, she was the Managing Editor of SAP Insider Magazine. Her family established this scholarship in her memory. This $2,000 award honors Megan and a Journalism major who hopes to make a positive difference in the world. The Daley Scholarship goes to a Journalism major from Massachusetts who has a minimum 3.3 grade point average and financial need. There are more ways to give than to send a donation. We would love to make a connection with you if you are in a position to sponsor an intern or are willing to share information about your professional experience with a current student. By helping students explore the field of journalism with practical experience before graduation or by sharing your real-world wisdom, you are making a major contribution to Journalism and to UMass.

If you can sponsor an intern or are willing to be a mentor, please email John Ciampa, who helps advise our students on internships and mentoring.
