Best Personal Home Pages

The assignment to develop a home page with a journalistic theme was juried by Marsha Marotta, who teaches political science at Mt. Holyoke College and is both a former city editor of the Springfield Daily News and former Visitng Professor of Journalism at the University of Massachusetts:

• Jacob W. Michaels
  

  "Michaels' page illustrated a clear excitement for the medium and the study of journalism. His newspaper-style format, complete with headlines and subject sections, was clever and consistently carried out. He followed the assignment of covering me and the issues I care about in a thoughtful mix of human interest and concrete details. His links were both useful and compelling."

  
  
• Laurence Harding
  

  "Harding's page stands out in its usefulness as a journalistic medium. He does not simply list links, as some pages do, but explains what they have to offer and makes connections with other links on his page. This saves the viewer from spending valuable time in following and then being disappointed in some links . Especially useful and different from other offerings were the Internet Toolbox and the Journalism Bookmarks. Harding clearly took the work seriously and put thought into the creation of his page."

  "My favorite page belongs to Michael McCloskey. It was a fascinating page that was chuck full of interesting information. It was imaginatively written and assembled. I especially enjoyed the section he created about his trip to Europe. The integration of sound, photos and links along with his written story made this a lively, compelling piece."
