An internship workshop or an individual meeting with the Career Services staff is required prior to doing an internship. Career Services is located in Goodell. They have many other resources available, including resumé writing and interviewing skills workshops and online internship listings. Relix Magazine is currently looking for freelance summer interns for 2008. Interns would be required to attend at lease one live music performance a week and submit a review within five days of the performance. This is a great opportunity to get experience reviewing shows and get clips on a nationally recognized website. Relix Magazine is about 35 years old and was traditionally a Grateful Dead fanzine that has evolved over time along with the jamband music scene. Performer Publications, Inc., has several unpaid internships for this fall 2008 semester in their Boston (Somerville), Atlanta, and San Francisco offices. The application deadline is September 12th 2008. Our Boston office offers internships with the Northeast Regional Editor, the National News Editor, the Operations Manager, Marketing Assistant, the Webmaster and a new Media internship with the Editorial and Marketing Department. The Atlanta and San Francisco offices have internships as assistants to the Regional Editors and the newly added Media Internship. Students may receive credit for the internship, but it is not required. These same internships will be offered in the spring semester of 2009. Performer Publications, Inc is the largest musicians’ trade magazine in the U.S. Performer Magazine, "The Musician’s Resource," publishes 3 free monthly regional magazines which are dedicated to covering all genres of independent music. We have a policy of hiring former interns when a full time position becomes available. Half of our staff were former Performer interns. Even if students are unable to intern here, we always are looking for staff writers (live & CD reviews) and photographers (live & still photography). Photographers must have a digital camera. Writers would have 3 weeks to review an album or a concert. Since we cover all genres of music from across the United States, it is not difficult for the student to find material he or she would enjoy. The goal with the program is to identify the best and brightest storytellers, and to give them a mainstream audience for their work. What is Glimpse?: Glimpse is a new nonprofit National Geographic platform (print magazine and website) about the experiences of young Americans abroad. We provide professional editorial support to help students learn the craft of storytelling, with the larger goal of using stories to inspire others to care about the world. Glimpse has offered students a platform for their stories for the past six years. Now with National Geographic, we are hoping to take our work to the next level. What is The Correspondents Program?:
The Correspondents Program is for especially talented students specializing in writing, photography or video. We will select 15 correspondents and each will receive a $600 stipend, a professional editor, and guaranteed publication in Glimpse (exceptional pieces may also be featured in other National Geographic platforms). The demands of the program are not extreme, but we do expect our correspondents program to commit to a professional editorial process.

The National Pork Producers Council is currently recruiting for its summer 2008 internship program. NPPC is seeking a communications intern and will accept students who are pursuing a degree in agriculture, journalism, communications, marketing, government relations and/or a related field of study. Communications Intern: The communications intern reports to the Communications Assistant and the Director of Communications. The intern provides support primarily to these two positions through various tasks and must possess strong writing, analytical and communications skills. Daily, the intern willresearch, collect, and read media pieces related to the pork industry for the publication titled Pork Daily Intelligence. He or she will also attend meetings and congressional hearings when necessary to take photos and report important information, so a strong interest in public policy is beneficial. Weekly, the intern will write a summary of legislative affair related to the pork industry for the Capital Update publication. The intern will assist in the writing and graphic design of newsletters, brochures and the Web site. The media contact list, membership list and publications lists are the intern's duty to maintain and update. The intern also assists in creating informational packets for NPPC meetings and conferences. This internship opportunity is designed to provide the participant with notable experience, writing samples, the ability to complete a relevant project of interest and develop photography, graphic design and Web site skills. Position Title: Communications Assistant (Full-Time Intern)

Reports to: Director of Communications
Term: June through the end of the 2008 MLS Season (approx. beginning of December)
POSITION SUMMARY
The New England Revolution seeks a highly motivated individual capable of expanding the club’s overall communications efforts. The Communications Assistant will be a vital part of the daily management of execution of the on-going and developing media relations, public
relations, community relations and multimedia efforts of the New England Revolution soccer team. The successful candidate will work daily with the diverse New England and national media (print, radio, television and internet) to put the Revolution in a positive light and increase awareness using to proactive techniques.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Assist with the day-to-day media relations duties of the Revolution, including but not limited to the development of press guides, press releases, game notes and other written communications collateral and the coordination of interviews and press events
Assist the Director of Communications in managing media relations and community relations efforts through story creation and proactive pitches in all available mediums, including print, radio, television and internet
Help in press box and with media operations on game days
Develop content for submission to Web Content Manager of revolutionsoccer.net and assist with the generation of new and timely content in all mediums (written, audio, video and photo)
Assist with production of game program and four-issue “FreeKick” gameday publication, including assigning, writing content and developing on-going layout ideas
Monitors daily media coverage in all mediums (print, radio, television, and internet).
Liaises with MLS Communications Department as needed
Interfaces with other MLS club PR departments as needed
Assist with player and staff community appearances when needed
Other duties as assigned
Due to the cyclical nature of the sports and entertainment industry, the employee will be required to work varying schedules to
reflect the business needs of the company, including most weekends and mid-year holidays.
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
The ideal candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Ideal candidate ought to be professional, motivated and enthusiastic
Demonstrated excellent written, oral and proof-reading skills
Must be well organized and able to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and challenged by accountability
Must have excellent interpersonal and external communication skills; possess a strong customer service orientation and have the ability to maintain smooth working relationships with all internal staff and management.
Knowledge and passion of the sport of soccer is preferred
Ideal candidate is bi-lingual (English and Spanish)
Proficiency in the following computer programs is preferred: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), QuarkXpress
and Adobe Creative Suite (specifically PhotoShop and Acrobat)
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who have recently completed their degree in communications, journalism or public relations OR who need to complete a full-time internship to cap their undergraduate degree requirements
Should possess experience in media and/or public relations, preferably in a collegiate Sports Information Department or a sports or entertainment-related setting Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC PHOTOGRAPHY INTERNSHIPS, SUMMER AND FALL 2008
Two photography internships offered by the National Geographic during the Summer and Fall 2008. One internship is automatically offered to the winner of the College Photographer of the Year contest adminsited by the University of Missouri www.cpoy.org. The second is awarded based on a portfolio. Interns must be at least 21 years of age. Both internships are for fourteen weeks at a salary of $480 per week plus expenses. To apply, send a portfolio of recent work (no more than 30 images, a resumé, and a letter of recommendation from a photography teacher or established photojournalist. They are intrested in your ability to produce a visual narrative.They will also consider aspring studio photographers. CDs are the preferred method of submission but portfolios may also be in the form of slides, prints or clippings of any combination, in color and/or black and white.
