Mary Carey has been an adjunct instructor of journalism at UMass since 2002. A Pittsfield native, she graduated with a BA in English from the University of Vermont in 1979 and a PhD in English from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993. She was a reporter for the Daily Hampshire Gazette for 15 years and is a certified teacher of English as a Foreign Language. She is currently a freelance writer and an online restaurant critic for MassLive.
