Yehuda Bauer is Professor Emeritus of Holocaust Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, academic adviser of Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Memorial Institute in Jerusalem, and a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. He is also the Honorary Chairman of the International Task Force on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research.
Professor Bauer has been engaged in research on the Holocaust and antisemitism for almost five decades. Since the mid-1990s, he has also been involved in research on genocide generally, and especially the genocides in Armenia, Rwanda, and most recently Darfur.
He has initiated and advised various inter-governmental conferences on Holocaust education and genocide prevention.
In 1998, Bauer was the recipient of the Israel Prize, the highest civilian award in Israel.
