Elena Luongo is currently a PhD Candidate in the Italian Section of the Department of German and Romance Languages and Literatures at Johns Hopkins University. Her dissertation centers on the Twentieth-Century writer Alberto Moravia and the constant presence of the maternal figure in his narratives, particularly in his last novels, Il viaggio a Roma and Il vassoio davanti alla porta. While at the College of the Holy Cross, Prof. Luongo taught all levels of Italian language as well as courses on Renaissance and Modern Literature. Among her research favorites are Dante, Boccaccio, Machiavelli, Foscolo, Svevo, Pirandello, Deledda and Gadda.
