Academics

The Italian Studies program offers undergraduate and graduate degrees: a major and a minor, and a MAT (Master in the Art of Teaching). Our approach to Italian Studies is highly interdisciplinary, fun and dynamic.

We offer courses that cover all language levels, a number of “bridge courses” that facilitate the students’ transition from language to literature and culture courses, and advanced courses on a variety of topics ranging from literary classics to Italian cinema, from medical humanities to regionalism in Italy, to food and culture.

Our students are strongly encouraged to participate in one of our carefully planned programs abroad, covering all academic levels and a variety of interests. They include a food studies Summer program in Rome, a Spring Semester in Siena, and an exchange program with the University of Bologna/Forlì (for students of Languages, but also – with courses in English – of Economics or Political Science). Our  study abroad programs are perfectly integrated in our curriculum on campus and credits transfer directly toward the UMass degree.
