Adobe Day at UMass Amherst 2013

Adobe Systems came to UMass Amherst on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 to provide free training and information sessions on Adobe products. Videos from the day are below the session descriptions.

The following sessions were offered:

Overview: What's New in CS6? (9:00 – 9:50 a.m.)

Adobe Creative Suite 6 represents a big leap forward in workflow and creativity—especially when it comes to output for mobile devices. Adobe applications that create digital communications, such as Adobe InDesign® and Dreamweaver® allow you to communicate with any device, including iOS and Android™ smart-phones and tablets. Develop HTML5 and CSS3 websites, add video to your work, and deliver exciting digital experiences with the same skills you have used for basic print and web design. Whether you are creating work for a specific piece or an overall portfolio to show to others, Adobe CS6 makes it easier than ever to tell your story in a way that will be remembered.

Photoshop for the Absolute Beginner: It's Easier Than You Think (10:00 – 10:50 a.m.)

Working with the world's premiere image-editing and photography tool is not as hard as it might first seem. During this session, we will take a look at the ways that you can start working with Photoshop right away. You'll walk away understanding how to manage files, and what file formats you should use when working with Photoshop. You'll see how layers allow you to create composite images like a professional—and how the tools for cutting an image out of a background work. Finally, you'll see how to create more than just an image with some of the automated tools for creating things like panoramas and web galleries with your images.

InDesign and Publishing in the Digital Age (11:00 – 11:50 a.m.)

Adobe's InDesign is a tool for creating documents that include text, images, and other graphics. During this session, you'll learn how the basics work to create a document. However, there is more that you can do with this tool. You'll see how to create ePubs and apps for the iPad as well as simple print projects. We'll see some examples of the possibilities that will inspire you. If you're used to using a word processor as a page layout tool, then you have a surprise in store when you see the possibilities and how easy they can be to achieve.

Dreamweaver, Mobile, and the Web (1:00 – 1:50 p.m.)

HTML, mobile, and the rest. How can you create for the web, and what should you do if you want to create more than just some text for a web site? During this session, we will examine the technologies and methods for creating web content. Plus, you'll see how you can create web sites without using any code to do so. Although you do need to understand something about HTML and the ways that it applies to creating a web page, you can create a lot without having to learn any code at all. You'll even see how to create full-blown applications for the desktop without a single line of code.

Acrobat and the Digital Document: Go Beyond Paper, Go Digital (2:00 – 2:50 p.m.)

Acrobat is a crown jewel in the Creative Suite set, and we'll show you how to do far more than to create an occasional PDF file. Come to this session and you'll see how to assemble a single document from many, add bookmarks, and apply mark-ups to make the document more useful. Plus, you'll see how to create and manage a form and its data. Finally, we'll look at how to create a PDF Portfolio of files that enables you to share any content with anyone. All they need is the free Adobe Reader. Plus, we'll look at—a complete set of cloud-based tools that make it easy to share and distribute information with anyone, anywhere.
