About eduroam

eduroam-logoeduroam (education roaming) replaced UMASS-SECURE1X for encrypted wireless connectivity on August 5, 2014. eduroam is an encrypted, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.

To use eduroam, you need to configure your device(s) while on the UMass Amherst campus. To do this, simply install XpressConnect on the device(s) you will be using on campus and while traveling. Before traveling, it is highly recommended that you test that you have the eduroam profile on your device.

eduroam allows UMass Amherst students, faculty, and staff to obtain free wireless connectivity at participating institutions in the U.S. and abroad, by simply opening their device. This makes connecting to the Internet easy and convenient when visiting other campuses for conferences, research, or other reasons. Similarly, visitors from other higher education institutions in the eduroam network can get wireless access on the UMass Amherst campus by connecting to the eduroam SSID.

eduroam originated in Europe, in the research and education community and is now available in 54 countries. Maps of participating institutions: United States Map | International Map
