About the New Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Virtual Private Networking (VPN) software creates an encrypted connection between your off-campus computer and the campus network. Members of the university community can use VPN software to connect securely to the campus network from off-campus (e.g., to access some campus servers or online library databases).

Most faculty and staff have access to the the UMASS VPN group and can begin connecting to the VPN automatically. If you have materials that may only be accessed by select individuals, please contact the IT Help Center to discuss creating a Restricted VPN Group.

Web Portal

VPN Web Portal connects to VPN through a Web browser. It does not require any software installation, and is most compatible with Safari and Internet Explorer Web browsers. The VPN Web Portal provides access to Web-based resources, remote desktop applications, and department servers. The Web portal makes it easy to connect to VPN with a computer when you do not have Administrator privileges.
