Use the Student Activity Tool to View Reports

Administration block Moodle 3.0 SSThe Student activity tool is a utility developed by IT at UMass Amherst to provide easier access to report types frequently used by our instructors. It collects several different types of reports on one page so that an instructor can track overall student contributions more easily. See below for a screenshot of the consolidated report page:

View all Forum Contributions From a Particular Student

  1. In the Administration block, under Course administration, click Student activity. The Student activity page opens.

    For each student, the Posts/Discussions started column contains two numbers separated by a slash symbol ( / ).
    •  The first number indicates the total number of posts made by the student.
    •  The second number indicates the number of new discussions started by that student.

  2. To view all posts made by a particular student in all Forum activities in your course, click the first number under Posts/Discussions started for that student in the report page. A new page opens showing all the Forum posts made by the student. This page includes both new discussions started by the student and replies made by the student to other discussions.
  3. To view only new discussions started by a particular student in all Forum activities in your course, click the second number under Posts/Discussions started for that student in the report page. A new page opens showing only discussion topics that were started by the student.

View a Summary of All Activity in the Course for a Particular Student

  1. In the Administration block, under Course administration, click Student activity. The Student activity page opens.
  2. For a particular student, click Complete Report. A new page opens showing all activity for that student in your course. This includes a summary view of assignments submitted, forum posts, questionnaires completed, quizzes attempted, etc., organized by course section. Each item links to the activity or resource.

View a Time Log of Resources and Activities Accessed by a Particular Student

  1. In the Administration block, under Course administration, click Student activity. The Student activity page opens.
  2. For a particular student, click All Logs. A new page opens showing the times at which the student accessed various activities and resources in your course. For more on configuring the logs on this page, see the Logs section in Use Reports to Track Student Activity in Moodle.
