Once students have submitted work to a Turnitin assignment, instructors can use the Submisison inbox to download individual submissions, export all student submissions in their original format or as .pdfs, and export an excel sheet list of grades. Exporitng submissions can be useful for instructors working with non-supported files in Turnitin or viewing submissions offline, or using an external software to mark-up or to offer feedback.

Downloading Individual Student Submissions

  1. On your course page, click the name of the Turnitin assignment. This will open the Submission inbox
  2. In the Submission inbox, locate the row for the student submission you want to download. Click the Download icon (Image of a cloud with an arrow pointing down) on that row. The download will begin.

Downloading Multiple Student Submissions

You may choose to download selected submissions from the Turnitin Submission inbox. This option allows you to specify which files you would like to download, without downloading all submissions.

  1. On your course page, click the name of the Turnitin assignment. This will open the Submission inbox
  2. In the Submission inbox, select the check box to the left of each student submission you want to download. The Download button will appear over the search box.
  3. Click Download. This will open a drop-down menu.
  4. From the drop-down menu, choose Original files to download the original files of the submissions, or choose Selected Grademark files. The download process will begin or a confirmation window will open.
Note: Selected Grademark Files may take several minutes to prepare. You can close the confirmation window, and access the prepared files in the Turnitin Messages Inbox.

Downloading All Submissions

If you want to download all student submissions, Turnitin gives you two options. You can choose to download the submissions in their original file format or as a .pdf. The files will be downloaded in a .zip file. You will need to extract the files from the .zip file to open them in most programs.

  1. On your course page, click the name of the Turnitin assignment. This will open the Submission inbox.
  2. In the Submission inbox, locate the Export box, located in the top right.
  3. Under Export, click on the icon corresponding to what you would like to download.
    • To download all submissions in their original format, select the plain page icon (see image below)
    • To download all submissions as a .pdf, select the Adobe page icon (see image below)

Downloading the Student Report

Turnitin will aggregate the student submission information, including grades recorded in Grademark and Similarity Report results. This will be available as an .xls file which can be opened with Microsoft Excel or another spreadsheet processing software.

  1. On your course page, click the name of the Turnitin assignment. This will open the Submission inbox.
  2. In the Submission inbox, locate the Export box, located in the top right.
  3. Under Export, click the Excel page icon (see image above). This will begin the download.
