The iClicker Course Settings window contains a series of tabs that let you customize the functionality of the iClicker Classic software.

Note: The instructions below focus on the most-used iClicker settings. We recommend that you keep the default settings as much as possible. For a more detailed explanation of the settings, see the full iClicker User Guide that is packaged within your iClicker Classic software folder.

General

  1. In the iClicker Classic Home window, click Settings. The Course Settings window will open.
  2. On the General tab, enter your Instructor Remote ID (located below the barcode on the back of your Instructor Remote).
  3. Set a Welcome Message. We recommend your course name and number, e.g. Demo101. The message will appear on the LCD screen of your students’ remotes when they power them on, and helps them know their clickers are transmitting to your iClicker classroom base.

REEF Polling & iClicker Cloud

REEF Polling by iClicker Cloud allows students to vote using mobile devices including laptops, smart phones, and tablets. It can be used alongside iClicker remotes in your class. Contact the Instructional Media Lab to verify that your classroom meets network requirements to support REEF Polling.

Gradebook

The Gradebook tab allows you to sync your iClicker Classic gradebook roster and scores with your Moodle course.

  1. In the iClicker Classic Home window, click Settings. The Course Settings window will open.
  2. Click the Gradebook tab.
  3. In the Learning Management System (LMS) section, click Select Course. The Log in to your learning management system window will open.
  4. In the LMS Username field, enter your NetID. (You do not need to enter your IT account password.) In the Security Key field, enter the security key from the iClicker block in your Moodle course (see: Integrate Moodle and iClicker Classic), then click Log In. The Select your course window will open.
  5. Click on your course in the list to select it. Click Select. The Select your course window will close. Click Save.
Note: If your course does not appear in this list, it is likely because your Moodle course has not yet been opened to students. Hidden courses cannot be synced with iClicker Classic. For instructions on making your course available, see Make your Moodle Course Available to Students.

Roll Call

The Roll Call tab allows you to easily use iClicker Classic to keep track of classroom attendance. Roll Call registration can be accessed once an iClicker session has been started. To change the settings for Roll Call:

  1. In the iClicker Classic Home window, click Settings. The Course Settings window will open.
  2. In the Display student section, select your preferred method of displaying student roll call registration: Name, Student ID, or Both Name and Student ID.
  3. Depending on the size of the class, all of the student names may not fit in the Roll Call window. If that is the case, iClicker Classic displays a new group of students after the time specified. The program cycles through the groups. This cycle time can be changed in the Display next group of students every X seconds section.
  4. In the Once a student registers in roll call section, choose either Student continues to be displayed or Student is no longer displayed.
  5. When you are done, click Save (at bottom).

Toolbar

The Polling tab lets you customize the session toolbar and set whether the polling timer counts up or counts down.

Scoring

The Scoring tab lets you set point values earned for participating in iClicker polling sessions and/or for answering questions correctly.

Participation points are awarded to students who vote during a class session (encouraging student engagement). They are awarded by overall session activity, not by individual question.

Performance points are awarded to students for each question, based on specific answers.

Results

The Results tab lets you customize the results charts for each question type.

Base Display

The Base Display tab lets you customize the base receiver LCD display. During polling, iClicker responses are shown on the base receiver LCD screen in real-time. The LCD display is useful in situations when you want to see how your audience is responding but don’t want to make the results viewable to everyone.
