Building the New Data Center in Support of Evolving Teaching, Learning & Research Needs

In response to growing needs for more technology services and storage on campus, the new UMass Amherst Data Center project started in 2014 with the goal of increasing performance, reliability, and redundancy to IT services supporting the campus community’s teaching, learning, and research needs. The new Data Center is part of the Data Center Optimization project, a system-wide initiative seeking to optimize the use of technology resources across campuses and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the University’s operations.

This is a multi-phase project. The first building phase is now successfully completed on time, scope, and budget. We are in the second phase which consists of moving data center operations to the new location. The third phase will involve backing up other UMass campuses.
