Security Alert! New Phishing Scam Targets UMass Amherst Community - Weds., 4/18

On April 18, 2018, a new fraudulent phishing message with the subject "You have a Faculty E-Learning message notification file" began targeting UMass Amherst email users.

The email appears to have been sent by "Eric Oberndorf," notifies the recipient "You have a Faculty E-Learning message notification file," and contains web links to "SIGN IN HERE." The links in the message direct the recipient to a fraudulent version of a UMass login page.

The email appears to have been sent by "Fuhrman, Jacques P," notifies the recipient "I Have marked your Request as closed," and contains web links to "Your incident." The links in the message direct the recipient to a fraudulent version of a UMass login page.

The email appears to have been sent by "Umass Mail," notifies the recipient "You have a Faculty E-Learning message notification file from your Department," and contains web links to "SIGN IN HERE." The links in the message direct the recipient to a fraudulent version of a UMass login page.

March 26, 2018

On March 26, 2018, a new fraudulent phishing message with the subject "Re: Your Application" began targeting UMass Amherst email users.

The email appears to have been sent by "University of Massachusetts," claims to be sent by a doctor from the department of Disability Resources and Educational Services with a job offer, and contains web links to "Apply for this Job." The links in the message direct the recipient to a fraudulent version of a UMass web page asking for contact information.
