SPIRE Unavailable - 2/17 - 2/21

February 16, 2017

SPIRE, the student records system, will be unavailable between 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 until 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 while UMass Amherst Information Technology performs a system upgrade.

You will not be able to log in to SPIRE during the maintenance window. Electronic transcripts cannot be processed during this time.

UPDATE: Cellular Service Issues Resolved - Th., 2/16

8:44 p.m. Verizon has reported that the service issues affecting some parts of campus earlier today have been resolved. Cellular service for Verizon Wireless subscribers should be restored. 


5:00 pm. UMass Amherst Information Technology (IT) has received reports of cellular service issues affecting Verizon Wireless subscribers in some parts of campus. Subscribers may experience a weak or nonexistent cellular signal. More information will be posted on this page once it becomes available. 

Security Alert! Phishing Scam Targets UMass Amherst Community

On February 15th and 16th , 2017, a new fraudulent phishing message with the subject "Unusual IP Activity" began targeting UMass Amherst email users. 

The email appears to have been sent by "The Webmail account team," notifies recipients that “We detected Someone just tried to sign  in into your web mail account from other IP address," contains a link and asks them to click on the link to “Verify Now.”

The web link in the email to a page where visitors are prompted to enter their username and password.

Internet Connectivity Issues Resolved - Fri., 2/10

Internet connectivity issues caused by a power outage on Thursday, February 9, 2017 have been resolved. UMass Amherst Information Technology will continue to closely monitor wired and wireless services to quickly address issues if necessary.
