Thinking about purchasing a new software, product, and/or tool? Of course you are vetting it for security, but have you thought about the importance of also looking into its accessibility? As a public institution, it is critical (morally, ethically, and legally) to ensure our software and products are accessible to the campus community. First step in assessing the accessibility of a software or a product is asking ‘Does your product/software have a VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template)?’ If you already inquired about this, kudos! However, this is not enough. Just because it comes with a VPAT does NOT mean it’s accessible. Bring your lunch and join us in learning more about the pros and cons of the VPAT, and how to determine credibility of a product/software’s VPAT.
