Understanding the Relationship between Urban Greenspace and Human Well-Being in Boston's Inner-Core Communities
This proposed study in the inner-city neighborhoods of Boston and neighboring cities combines ecological study of bio-diversity and species richness and extent with social science measures of human health and well-being on several scales. The study focuses on the public perceptions of green space users who are the ultimate consumers and benefactors of these spaces. The research questions are: 1) What is the relationship between urban forest canopy, biodiversity, and urban residents' health and well-being? 2) How do these measures of well-being vary according to the type and composition of urban forest canopy?
