# ISSR Methodology Workshop | Introduction to Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling using SPSS [1]

## Event date/time:

**Instructor: **Qiong Chen

Factor analysis can be used to group variables according to their shared and unique variances. It is useful in identifying dimensions of an index/scale, understanding the structure of a large set of variables, and reducing the variables to a more manageable size while retaining as much of the original information as possible. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is a confirmatory technique which can be used to determine and validate a proposed causal process or model. In this workshop we will introduce how to perform factor analysis and SEM using SPSS.

**Learning objectives:**

By the end of this workshop, participants will know:

- When to use factor analysis and SEM.
- How to run factor analysis and SEM in SPSS.
- How to interpret SPSS output.
