ISSR Methodology Workshop | Getting Started in NVivo: The Basics | Importing Your Data, Setting Up Your Node Structure, and Beginning to Code

Event date/time:

Tuesday, September 25, 2018 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm
E20 Machmer Hall | UMass Amherst

Instructor: Ashley Carpenter

This workshop will cover the basics of how to get started using NVivo. It is targeted to new users of NVivo who have little or no experience with the software. This hands-on session will focus on bringing data into NVivo, organizing it, and beginning to code.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own computers with NVivo 11 or NVivo 12 installed, but ISSR laptops will also be available for use on a first-come, first-served basis (reserve a laptop when you register for the course). Note: You can still use your NVivo 11 software in this workshop. NVivo is available for free to SBS faculty, staff, and students who register here. It is also available free or discounted to SOM and School of Education affiliates—contact your department for more info. You can also contact OIT to find out if your department has a license. Finally, NVivo offers free 30-day trials of the full software on their website. Please have the NVivo software downloaded to your personal device prior to the workshop.

What is NVivo? NVivo is a qualitative data management software that offers a platform to organize, analyze, and parse through large amounts of qualitative data of all kinds—from interview recordings and field notes to video and images. Want to learn more about what the software can do? Visit The QSR International web page.
