Thursday, June 11, 2015 - 9:00am to Friday, June 12, 2015 - 5:00pm

Instructed by Laurel Smith-Doerr and Sharla Alegria in Sociology (June 11th – June 12th | 9:00am - 4:00pm daily)

Research methods can sometimes be a dividing line in the social sciences, but the tensions between qualitative and quantitative approaches can also be a productive site for innovative research. In this workshop we explore and demonstrate the potential of mixed methods research for innovative social science. We will discuss the strengths, weaknesses, and logics of inquiry for a variety of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed method research designs.  Examples of excellent mixed method research will illustrate a wide range of options for strengthening research through mixed methods design. Throughout the workshop participants will have the opportunity to work with instructors and each other directly on their own mixed method research projects at any stage of development from design to analysis to data visualization and presentation.
