UMass Amherst | E20 Machmer Hall

Have you wondered what colleagues mean when they say, “Books are so 20th century?” This panel explores the exciting possibilities and challenges raised by digital publishing. Short panel presentations examine various digital platforms such as Scalar, the pros and cons of publishing digitally, finding technical support at UMass and the Five Colleges, how to get started, and much more. There will be ample time for Q&A and discussion, and a light lunch will be served. This event is co-sponsored by ISSR and Instructional Innovations, UMass Amherst IT.

Janice Irvine is Professor of Sociology at UMass Amherst, and is currently writing a book on the open source digital platform, Scalar.

Michele Turré is a faculty support specialist with the UMass IT Instructional Innovation group. Michele’s focus is web design and usability. She works primarily with open source web applications such as Moodle and WordPress, and is on the team implementing the UMass Create pilot project.

Eric Poehler is Associate Professor in the Department of Classics at UMass Amherst, and Director of the Five Colleges Blended Learning and Digital Humanities programs.
