Stata is a statistics software broadly used for social analysis, especially in economics. This workshop is designed as an introductory course in Stata, devoted to those who are not familiar with Stata or those who want to manipulate data outside of a spreadsheet format and avoid repeating multiple tasks.  At the end of the workshop, participants will be familiarized with the use of Stata and conducting basic statistical analyses. No previous experience with Stata is assumed.

Please note that the course will use Stata for PC. A few commands and functionalities differ in Stata for Mac, but Mac users are also encouraged to attend the workshop.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Know the basics about Stata environment
  • Import data from a csv or an excel file
  • What is a .do file?
  • Descriptive statistics
  • Run a simple regression
  • Create a basic graph
