Introduction to Interview Methods for Social Science Research

Monday, March 24, 2014 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm
ISSR Lab, W37E Machmer Hall (3rd Floor, West Wing)

Learn the do’s and don’t's of interview based data collection. This workshop will include a comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of multiple interview formats (i.e. structured, semi-structured, and open-ended).

Interviews can be used by social scientists to collect in-depth and nuanced qualitative data. The personalized nature of interviews can help researchers discover details that might otherwise be missed by more generalized or standardized research methods, such as surveys. The goal of this workshop is for participants to be able to recognize what type of interview is most appropriate for a project, and then be able to generate an efficient and effective line of questioning.
