Location

Situated on a 300 acre site overlooking the ancient Cathedral City of Canterbury, the University is about a mile from the City, 56 miles south of London, and close to the English Channel Ports and Tunnel providing easy access to continental Europe. Canterbury itself is an attractive mixture of ancient and modern: high street chain stores alongside medieval streets packed with pubs, restaurants, antique and craft shops.

Overview

The University received its Royal Charter in 1965 – one of seven new campus universities founded in England in the sixties. Today it has an international reputation for academic excellence which is maintained by its high standards of teaching and research.
The campus is self-contained, which means that you are usually within walking distance of all the excellent facilities on offer: the Sports Centre, the Gulbenkian Theatre complex including Cinema 3, the Students' Union including the Venue nightclub, the Templeman Library, the Medical Centre, the Computing Service, the Campus Shop and bookshop, a pharmacy, an off-license, banks and cashpoints, bistros, bars, public access terminals, bus-stops and launderettes. Canterbury city centre is only 20 minutes walk away, or on a direct bus route. There are approximately 11,000 students at the Canterbury campus, including undergraduates and postgraduates, plus lecturers, research staff, members of the local community and overseas students on a year abroad. With over 140 nationalities represented, the campus has a very cosmopolitan feel.
Kent's Canterbury Campus page has lots of student life information.

Eligibility

Students need to have a 3.0 GPA and demonstrable background in the major field.

Curriculum

Kent strongly encourages interdisciplinary study, and students are free to choose a program that draws on different subject areas. However, students should have some background in the subject areas chosen. Kent modules are usually 15 or 30 credits, with a full semester course load averaging 60 credits. Subject areas range from Humanities and Social Sciences to Science, Technology and Medical Studies. Check their Short Term information.

Housing

Kent offers a range of accommodation for nearly 4,000 students. Nearly a third of the accommodation is newly built with en suite facilities. Most rooms have computer network connection. On central campus there are rooms, flats and houses in the University's colleges and accommodation buildings. Our student village at Park Wood is a ten-minute walk from central campus and offers accommodation in houses or flats.
The four colleges on the central campus are multi-purpose communities, which offer accommodation for living, learning and socialising. College accommodation is available in term-time only. If you choose to live in college, your accommodation fees includes breakfast each day, but you can use this allowance as a contribution towards dinner if you do not have breakfast. Self-catering accommodation in houses and flats is available both at Park Wood and on central campus. Houses consist of five or six bedrooms, with bathroom and kitchen; there are a few houses with a larger number of rooms. Flats have between four and nine en suite bedrooms. Self-catering accommodation is available for the duration of the academic year - September to June including vacation periods.
