Location

The University of East Anglia is located just one and a half miles outside the town of Norwich. Overlooked by the towering cathedral and Norman castle, Norwich’s cobbled streets open out on to riverside walks, quiet gardens, museums and art galleries. Many ancient building now serve as cinemas, tea rooms and concert halls, and the city is also full of nightclubs, pubs and restaurants. The region of East Anglia is steeped in tradition and history, with its long coastline, wildlife sanctuaries, beautiful beaches and classical English countryside. UEA is less than two hours away from London, and 60 miles from Cambridge. The University organizes regular visits to places of interest, including Stratford-upon Avon, Stonehenge, and Thomas Hardy country.

Overview

The combination of an idyllic setting and a reputation for quality teaching and research makes UEA an ideal place to study. Built on 320 acres of parkland sloping down to the Broad – an 18-acre expanse of water – the campus is one of the most innovate in the country, combining natural beauty with striking architecture. Although the campus has grown considerably since the University was founded in the 16th century, it remains compact, which helps foster a real sense of community. UEA has won many architectural awards for innovative building, including the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, which is among the world’s leading university art galleries. The heart of the campus is the Square, an outdoor meeting place surrounded by the Students’ Union, shops, post office, banks, restaurants, and bars. The University has a computerized library system and 24 hour access to computer labs. Students are assigned an academic adviser to help guide them in their studies. Other amenities include a comprehensive sports facility and a center for the arts. See their Study Abroad Resource if you have questions.
