Overview

The University of Cape Town is a vibrant academic community of some 16,000 students and 4,500 members of staff. The main campus occupies a beautiful site on the slopes of Table Mountain. We are a comprehensive university offering a full range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. We are also a major centre for research and we have exchange agreements and links with universities on the African continent and throughout the world.
Nestling on the slopes of Devil's Peak, the University of Cape Town (UCT) is South Africa's oldest university, and is one of Africa's leading teaching and research institutions. The modern campus is located in the heart of the city of Cape Town.

Curriculum

The University has six faculties (Commerce, Engineering and the Built Environment, Health Sciences, Humanities, Law and Science). This structure was recently reviewed as part of a comprehensive strategic planning process aimed at fulfilling UCT's Mission of being "an outstanding teaching and research university, educating for life and addressing the challenges facing our society." Today, the university community comprises more than 15,000 students and 4,500 members of staff. Particular emphasis is placed on postgraduate studies and 30% of its students are enrolled in postgraduate programmes. UCT is internationally recognized as Africa's leading research university, a position confirmed by independent peer review. In addition to the Groote Schuur Campus, UCT has three smaller campuses: the Medical School in Observatory, the Hiddingh Campus in the Gardens, and the Breakwater Campus at the Waterfront.

Housing

UCT's well-equipped campuses and residences provide excellent living and learning environments in beautiful surroundings on the slopes of Devil's Peak and elsewhere on the Cape Peninsula. they provide ideal facilities for students wishing to benefit from full-time study at one of Africa's leading universities. The International Office at UCT knows how important comfortable, secure and convenient accommodation is to making your study abroad experience a success. Unfortunately, the University of Cape Town does not have enough dormitory/residence space available to accommodate all study abroad students in campus housing. The UCT International Programs has made arrangements with reputable private landlords to secure places in houses/buildings within close walking distance of the campus.
