Amherst Community Reception & Host-Family Sign-up
|
This bus tour will show you around the quaint town of Amherst and surrounding areas while highlighting local venues and bike trails. Since the trip is sponsored by the Town of Amherst, you will be greeted by local government officials at the conclusion of the bus tour. You may also opt to sign up with a local host family - a wonderful opportunity to experience American culture and tradition away from the university setting. You will need to walk back to UMass at the end of this trip. Sign-up is required to attend this trip. Cost: Free Date: Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 Time: 3:30PM-5:30PM Meet at Haigis Mall at 3:15PM

Featuring nearly 200 stores and shops on three levels, the Holyoke Mall will satisfy nearly all of your shopping desires. The mall is approximately 20 miles (35 km) away from campus and the drive takes about 25 minutes. Sign-up is required to attend this trip. Walking Trip up Mount Sugarloaf

Mount Sugarloaf has a vertical height of 652 feet (199 m). After a brief walk up the road, you will have stunning views of the Connecticut River Valley, the Holyoke Range of mountains, and UMass! Mount Sugarloaf is about 9 miles (15 km) away from campus and the drive takes about 15 minutes. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water. Sign-up is required to attend this trip. Beneski Museum of Natural History at Amherst College

Come enjoy the local Amherst College Museum of Natural History! Once you arrive at the museum, explore the exhibits and learn about this amazing local resource. The museum contains three floors of exhibits and over 1700 specimens on display, as well as a large collection of dinosaur tracks! Sign-up is required to attend this trip. Boston Trip

An all-day self-guided excursion to Boston will provide you with an opportunity to see the historical sites of New England's largest city. Shopping, museums, parks, and great restaurants are all available. The subway (the "T"), provides quick access to many neighborhoods. Boston is approximately 90 miles (145 km) from Amherst and the drive is approximately 2 hours by car. Transportation is provided to and from UMass and Boston.
