Trip registration is open to students who have registered for the International Student Orientation (ISO). ISO registration is closed.

 

TRIP ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 27, 2014

1. Amherst Community Reception and Host-Family Sign-up REGISTRATION CLOSED

This bus tour will show you around the quaint town of Amherst and surrounding areas while highlighting local venues and bike trails. Since the trip is sponsored by the Town of Amherst, you will be greeted by local government officials at the conclusion of the bus tour. You may also opt to sign up with a local host family - a wonderful opportunity to experience American culture and tradition away from the university setting. You will walk back to UMass at the end of this trip.

TRIPS ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 30, 2014 (3 available trips; CHOOSE ONE)

1. Holyoke Mall REGISTRATION CLOSED

 

Featuring nearly 200 stores and shops on three levels, the Holyoke Mall will satisfy nearly all of your shopping desires.  The mall is approximately 20 miles (35 km) away from campus and the drive takes about 25 minutes.

2. Beneski Museum of Natural History at Amherst College REGISTRATION CLOSED

Come enjoy the local Amherst College Museum of Natural History!  Once you arrive at the museum, explore the exhibits and learn about this amazing local resource. The museum contains three floors of exhibits and over 1700 specimens on display, as well as a large collection of dinosaur tracks!

3. Walking Trip up Mount Sugarloaf

Mount Sugarloaf has a vertical height of 652 feet (199 m). After a brief 15-20 minute walk up the road, you will have stunning views of the Connecticut River Valley, the Holyoke Range of mountains, and UMass! Mount Sugarloaf is about 9 miles (15 km) away from campus and takes about 15 minutes. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water.

TRIPS ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 31, 2014 (2 available trips; CHOOSE ONE)

1. Hiking Trip to the Notch REGISTRATION CLOSED

Hike to the peak of the Holyoke Mountain range (1106 feet or 337 meters) and enjoy the stunning views of the Connecticut River Valley and UMass. Hiking shoes or sneakers required (NO sandals or dress shoes). Bring a bottle of water.

2. Family Fun Center 

Enjoy a few hours of fun at the Western Massachusetts Family Fun Center, located just down the road in Hadley. You will receive four tickets and can use one ticket for any of the activities offered; golf ball driving range, baseball and softball batting cages, mini golf and paintball gallery. Visit their snack bar with items available for your purchase.

TRIP ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2014

1. Boston Trip 

Boston is approximately 90 miles (145 km) from Amherst and the drive takes approximately 2 hours. Round trip transportation is provided between UMass Amherst and Boston. Upon returning from Boston you will be dropped off at the Haigis Mall Fine Arts Center bus stop. You should plan to take a PVTA bus to your off-campus housing location.
