Health Insurance

The United States Information Agency (USIA) has mandated, via federal regulations, that all Exchange Visitors holding the J-1 visa maintain health insurance coverage for themselves and their dependents. Maintaining health insurance is a condition of your J-1 visa status. The coverage must meet the US State Department guidelines which were sent to you with your visa application. If UMass or your sponsoring agency is not providing health insurance, you must purchase your own. You may find your own or use the UMass International Scholars Plan.

Employees in positions represented by the Postdoctoral Researcher Organizing (PRO) bargaining unit are eligible for health insurance coverage through the Health New England / PD (HNE/PD) plan.
